On my YouTube channel, I often create content using different reverb pedals alongside my Nords. But since all Nords come with built-in reverbs, the natural question arises: do you really need a reverb pedal for your Nord? The simple answer is no—a reverb pedal is not necessary for your Nord.
The Nord’s built-in reverbs sound great and will cover your needs for most worship situations. However, if you’re looking for more advanced reverb sounds like shimmer reverb or want more control over your reverb settings, you'll quickly hit the limits of the built-in reverb and will need a pedal. Additionally, the reverb control on Nords is a single knob that adjusts both the mix (amount of reverb) and decay (how long the effect persists after the sound stops—short decay keeps it tight, while long decay makes it spacious). While this single knob makes it easy to adjust the reverb quickly during live performances, it also limits the reverb sound possibilities.
The Cloudburst is one of Strymon’s newer releases, delivering lush ambient reverb in a compact, small-form-factor pedal. It features true stereo input and output and introduces the unique Ensemble mode, which adds subtle, synth-like textures that evolve with your sound. Compared to its larger sibling, the BigSky, the Cloudburst is more affordable and focused, making it an attractive option for players who want ambient depth and lush textures without the size or cost of a multi-algorithm unit.
